Media Democracy Days 2016

Author

Media Democracy Days is in its 16th year of bringing together media makers, activists, and educators, to celebrate independent media and social change. Our annual event is taking place this year on Saturday, November 19th at SFU Vancouver’s Harbour Centre Campus and remains completely free and open to the public.

Media Democracy Days is an organisation born out of Simon Fraser University’s School of Communications. Our slogan of ‘Know the Media, Be the Media, Change the Media’ reflects our commitment to the ideals of enabling democracy by empowering citizens with the knowledge they need to critique and challenge mainstream media and the tools to participate in media making for positive social change.

Media Democracy Days 2016 will include a community driven program consisting of a full day of hands on workshops, discussions, and collaboratively determined events (all free!) on November 19. Featuring a keynote from host of the Red Man Laughing podcast Ryan McMahon: “Digital Media, Bush Tea & Dibaajimowinan – How Story Shapes The Future Of Indigenous Communities.”
