Former CiTR Arts Director Adam Janusz will take you through the basics of interviewing live on the air.
Wednesday November 26th 7pm-9pm in Council Chambers(Room 206) of the Student Union Building



Whether it’s formulating good interview questions or wrangling your subject for an interview, we got your back! Join Adam Janusz, former CiTR Arts Director and host of the Arts Report, for an introduction to interviewing that will get you pumped and ready to take on the world.


Workshops are free for CiTR members but there is limited capacity! RSVP at volunteer@citr.ca

Shindig Night Five: Skim Milk, Spring Breaks & Two Doges and A Couple of Bauds

Once again, three awesome acts are going to be hitting the stage at The Hindenburg this Tuesday for another week of SHiNDiG! Malk won last week and will be moving onto the semi-finals to be held in January!

The prizes up for grabs include studio time, features in Discorder Magazine, posters, as well as showcases with Music Waste, Canadian Music Week, and AMS Events. Hundreds of bands and musicians playing every genre imaginable have participated in SHiNDiG since it was founded in 1983!

Skim Milk, Spring Breaks, and Two Doges and A Couple of Bauds will be gracing the stage Tuesday, November 17th.

Skim Milk is a project by UBC grad and Brasstronaut member Sam Davidson. Davidson fuses various sounds and influences including electronic music and clarinet, and released his debut album in February. Give it a listen below!

UBC Players Club Presents: 7 Stories – November 12th-16th

Premiering this Wednesday, UBC Players Club presents 7 Stories, written by award winning playwright UBC alumnus Morris Panych at the Dorothy Somerset Studio on campus!

Set on the ledge outside of an apartment building, this thought-provoking dark comedy centres on Man, who is in the middle of contemplating suicide when he is interrupted by the building’s colourful residents. Will they be able to talk him down, or further convince him of the utter absurdity of life? Step on up to the seventh story and find out…

Throwback: Purple Hearts Social Club and Tough Age at Victory Square Block Party

If you are missing Victory Square Block Party as much as we are, these videos of Purple Hearts Social Club and Tough Age may brighten the mood!

Hip hop quartet Purple Hearts Social Club will be competing on the final night of SHiNDiG Round One, December 16th, alongside RAISED ON DJs and The Plodes.

Vancouver punk outfit Tough Age released their debut full-length album nearly a year ago via Mint Records. You can catch them live at Mint Records’ “Ridiculously Early Xmas Party” on November 29th at the Electric Owl. Supermoon, Jay Arner, Hag Face and more are also on the bill; Duncan McHugh of CiTR’s Duncan’s Donuts will be DJing! (more…)

Media Democracy Day 2014 at Vacouver Public Library Central Branch- November 7th to 8th

This year’s Media Democracy Day Vancouver is happening this weekend, with CiTR providing a live broadcast from 12PM to 6PM this Saturday!

The Media Democracy Project works hard to create a significant presence for noncommercial media in Canada. The three main objectives of Media Democracy are outlined in its three-pronged approach:

KNOW THE MEDIA by engaging in critical, progressive, cross-cultural, and intergenerational policy dialogue

BE THE MEDIA by working directly with local media makers to produce messages that intervene in cultural and political life

CHANGE THE MEDIA by collaborating with community members to create progressive coalitions and actionable political goals.

Shindig Night 4: Double Standards, Malk & Speller

Another Tuesday means another lineup of stellar music at The Hindenburg! Congrats to Revered, who won last night’s SHiNDiG and will be back for the semi-finals early next year!

Founded in 1983, SHiNDiG has provided a platform for hundreds of bands and musicians of all different genres. Prizes this year include studio time, showcases with Music Waste, Canadian Music Week and AMS Events, Discorder Magazine features, poster distribution and more!

Tuesday, November 10th will feature sets from Double Standards, Malk and Speller! CiTR DJs will be spinning tunes after the bands.

Double Standards is a two-piece rock band comprised of Steven Finnegan and Matt MacEwing. The duo is currently working on a new EP. Take a listen to the collection of demos posted on their Bandcamp page below!

School of Rock Beverage Garden

CiTR and FilmSoc are teaming up this Friday November 7 for a rocking beer garden! Come down and watch the classic film School of Rock, and be entertained before the film and during intermissions by live music! The event will take place at the Norm theatre in UBC’s SUB. Doors open at 7:00 pm and the first band is on at 7:30! The movie will begin at 8 pm.
