Unceded Airwaves Episode February 13, 2019

Annual Women's Memorial March

2:03pm - 2:58pm

In the lead-up to this year's Women's Memorial March, this episode is about the oppression Indigenous cis women, trans women, two-spirit people and queer people face. We hear from Jody Leon, from the Splatsin First Nation, and Ida Manuel, from the Secwepemc First Nation. Jody and Ida tell us about the women who have gone missing from their communities over the last few years, and the man at the centre of several accusations, Curtis Wayne Sagmoen.

Next up, the resignation of former Attorney General and Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould from her new position as Minister of Veteran Affairs. We hear clips of her dad voicing his support through her career and we talk about how freaking hard it must be to be an Indigenous woman in the federal cabinet.

Thanks to Jamuna, Wacey, Autumn and Steph for co-hosting today's show. We broadcast from the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Peoples.
