Unceded Airwaves Episode October 30, 2017

Musqueam Language Revitalization and Season 2 Recap

11:00am - 11:56am

In Season 3 Episode 1- we talk about Musqueam language revitalization! We were joined by Patricia Shaw and Grace Point to talk about how the Musqueam people are revitalizing their own language. We start off by discussing their relationships to revitalizing language, how they got started, and what they're up to now! Then we discuss colonization and how language revitalization is a mode of decolonization, and what they're actively doing to decolonize. Autumn includes, "150 Acts of Reconciliation" by Crystal Fraser and how non-indigenous Canadians can get involved in decolonizing. Then we interview Mario Parent, Victor Sauca, Josh Kioke and Nikita Day about what happened on Season 2 and some possible ideas for Season 3, as well as how being on radio has helped them grow.

Big thanks to Grace Point, Patricia Shaw, Mario Parent, Josh Kioke, and Victor Sauca for visiting this episode. Thank you to our co-hosts Nikita Day, and Autumn Schnell for showing up every week to bring you this weekly program (and thank you Dora Dubber for board op-ing!). Unceded Airwaves on CiTR 101.9FM broadcasts from the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam people. This show is put together every week by UBC's Indigenous Radio Collective, and we are committed to centering the voices of Indigenous people and offering alternative narratives that empower Native people and our stories.
