From August 4th – 11th 1990, Vancouver hosted the 3rd Annual Gay Games which was as expected, a MASSIVE success. Jump forward 33 years, to an Ad Hoc committee that was formed amongst a few members of Vancouver’s queer community who were looking for a large-scale event to bring to Vancouver.

They made the decision that the best opportunity for our community to shine was by looking at the Federation of Gay Games and their bidding process to potentially bring (for the Van 1990 40th anniversary), a return to Vancouver for the 13th International Gay Games in 2030.

Building on support and interest from community members, sporting groups and the local arts and cultural community, the Committee drafted and submitted a bid for Vancouver to once again Host the Gay Games and in the first week of January 2024, Vancouver was indeed confirmed as a bid city for the 2030 Gay Games.

To discuss this further and how people can become involved, we speak with JOHN BOYCHUCK (he/him), one of the Bid Committee Members to discuss the return of the Gay Games to Vancouver and what the community can do to help in the next phase of the bid process.
