As a post-PhD (postdoctoral) scientist, you now have a "license to research": but then what? As hired research guns, postdocs typically do the bulk of the lab work as well as manage the lab and supervise students. But in most cases, job security, worker benefits and pay are well below par. And, despite best efforts, only a third of us ever go on to get tenured university gigs! We love what we do, but how can we improve our situation!?
