Our continuing listen to the 15 CD linited edition box set 'The Chess Story' spotlights the years 1962 to 1964 today. While the blues stalwarts like Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry were still putting out releases, increasingly the focus was on rhythm & blues and soul music from the likes of Etta James, Billy Stewart, Sugar Pie DeSanto and joe Tex. This was probably the result of Leonard and Phil Chess competing with the new kid on the block, Motown Records.
