Today, we take a deep dive into the “Swamp Blues” of Excello Records, a Nashville-based label formed by Ernie Young in 1952 to record blues. Jay Miller was the primary producer for Excello in his studio in Crowley Louisiana. The label made an important contribution to the development of rock and roll. Excello had a wonderful array of blues singers who even today have a strong following among collectors. Chief among these was Slim Harpo, Lightnin' Slim, Silas Hogan, Lazy Lester, and Lonesome Sundown were also recorded. All of the original Excello albums issued in the 1960s are very collectible today.
