Western / Creed / Spybey – ‘W ands’
Review By Mark Hjorthoy

I’m a fan of ambient and drone music, and I hear a lot of people take the genres on with mixed results. Sometimes the pieces are too busy, sometimes far too sparse, but sometimes, they leak genius all over the place. I was hoping this release, from three people that create new and exciting music on their own, would be one of those “genius leakers”.

I was right. The six pieces that make up “Western / Creed / Spybey – W ands” are overflowing with brilliance. All three of these guys on their own make great albums, (RIP Phil, we miss you buddy), but the stunning sparseness of this release shows how well they gel as a unit. This is the kind of album you wear headphones with and make sure you clear your schedule for. No interruptions, just losing yourself in its powerful quietness. It’s the perfect soundtrack to relaxation. It’s too bad this combination will never record again. I just hope that there are a few more unfinished tracks by WCS that may turn up one day. I’d stand in a line to get a copy, (wearing a mask and social distancing of course). Go pick up a copy of this, and find yourself again.
