A descendant of Icelandic folk musicians and clowns, OPAL DAR (they/them) was born and raised in East Vancouver, BC and now resides on the Unceded Territory of the T'Souke nation as a queer, disabled artist.

Birds Hurting Birds Who Hurt Birds is Opal’s Debut album recorded at The Noise Floor Studio with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts. The album was produced by Opal Dar, Jordan Koop and Todd MacDonald on Gabriola Island over 11 days.


Many pertinent topics are covered in each song, including but not limited to: Disordered Eating, Suicide, Dissociation… yet they somehow manage to always pull us back into the light with messages of belonging and survival. A testament to the truth of this artists’ life as a critically ill, disabled person making art below the poverty line and trying to be heard.
