DR. AMY PARENT (she/her) Nisga’a name is Noxs Ts’aawit (Mother of the Raven Warrior Chief Ts’awit). On her mother’s side of the family, she is from the House of Ni’isjoohl and is a member of the Ganada (frog) clan and on her father’s side of the family, she is of Settler ancestry (French and German).

Dr. Parent is a scholar, speaker, mentor, educator, and mother. She is an Associate Professor and Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Education & Governance in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University (Ph.D., UBC). She is also Co-Chair of the Indigenous Research Leadership Circle with the Tri-Council Agency and the Inaugural Associate Director for the SFU Cassidy Centre for Educational Justice.

In 2023, she received the B.C. Historical Foundation Certificate of Merit with the N’isjoohl rematriation delegation team, which recognized their collective work in bringing their family’s memorial pole back to its rightful place in the Nisga’a Nation after being stolen for 94 years, housed in a museum in Scotland.

In 2024, she was named the Confederation of University Faculty Associations of British Columbia “Distinguished Academic of the Year.”

KELSEY KANATAN WAVEY (they/them) is a gender fluid multidisciplinary artist born and raised in Treaty 1, Winnipeg, and is a 5th generation settler of German/British/Norwegian ancestry and Muskeg Ininowahk (Swampy Cree) and is a proud member of the Tataskweyak Cree Nation (Treaty #5).

Kelsey attended Studio 58 to study acting, and has been working as an actor, writer, director, and curator since graduating in 2019.

Kelsey is also a singer and is working on self-releasing their work with Indigenous indie pop rock group “EVERB0DY”, as well as singing with the Indigenous drumming group M’Girl and the Iskwew Singers.

Some of Kelsey’s recent theatre acting work includes In My Day (Zeezee theatre), The Rez Sisters, Women of the Fur Trade, Making the Mystics and Break Horizons: a Concert Documentary. You may have seen their recent directing work in Cerulean Blue (Studio 58) and Gather: Stories in Nature (Neworld and Pacific Theatre)

Kelsey is the Associate Director of EYES OF THE BEAST, a 90-minute documentary-style theatre production which adapts the award-winning journalism of the Climate Disaster Project, bringing to life numerous testimonies from individuals across Canada who have been deeply impacted by climate-related catastrophes.
