New Music Review By Mark Hjorthoy

Mat Watson – Radio Waves At The End Of Time

Damn. An entire album based on a notoriously difficult synth to program? Bring it on. I feel like I’m inside a Doctor Who episode, without the guff, and full of unknown brilliance. Mat, you made gold here man! I can’t wait to hear the rest of the albums you have planned.

Mono Hideout – Visions

Waves of warm melodic synths that allow chirpy sequences to share their space. Kind of Tangerine Dream, kind of Boards Of Canada, without stepping on either. I could have this playing all day and still want to keep it going. A new way of representing old sounds perfectly. Sheer excellence in a perfect package.

Die Sonne Satans – Omega

Spooky synths that drone and weave through field recordings, and settle in areas unexpected is the best way to describe this release. I love it when I can’t predict where a piece will go and Die Sonne Satans do this with medical precision. Brilliantly mixed and captivating to the last note. This one surprised me in a wonderfully dark way.
