The Waldorf Presents: The Coathangers with White Mystery and Joyce Collingwood

Author

March 29th @ The Waldorf Hotel (1489 East Hastings St.)

Meet us at the Waldorf on March 29th for some of the most high-octane rock you’ll ever see. The historic venue will be playing host to Atlanta’s all-girl experimental punk band The Coathangers and Chicago’s borther/sister rock’n’roll duo White Mystery. The show will also feature the insanity fuelled thrash punk of Vancouver’s very own Joyce Collingwood.

More after the jump.

The Coathangers
The Coathangers were a band before they were musicians. The Atlanta quartet started out as an excuse to hang out and play parties. Their jokey attitude ran deep, right down to their name—a self-admittedly crude abortion reference for an all-girl group. The whole knowing-how-to-play-an-instrument thing was just a minor hurdle in their musical mission. And to their credit, The Coathangers stormed onto the scene, regardless of the handicap, as a completely unaffected, unpretentious, deliciously sloppy, and totally infectious rock band. What they lacked in formal training they made up for in an innate understanding of how to craft a hook and propel a song forward on sheer charisma. It was impossible not to like them.

White Mystery
White Mystery is the brother/sister rock’n’roll duo from Chicago named an MTV Top Sibling Act and Best Video Premiere, Top 10 National by the Austin Chronicle, Top Ten Female Guitarist by Guitar World, this two-piece comprised of Miss Alex White and Francis Scott Key White has shared stages with Weezer, the Gories, and Mavis Staples.

Joyce Collingwood
A Vancouver-based 5-piece, formed in April of 2009 with the goal of making raw unpretentious punk. The band features Private Minou on vocals, Twitch and Claudia Fernandez Garcia on guitars, Gillian Callander on bass and Joy On Drums. You may have seen them in a dirt floor shed somewhere in Squamish, or fighting for sex trade workers’ rights at a Vancouver P.A.C.E. fundraiser or putting on their own shows at Funky’s. Their live shows blast through tight rhythm changes, aggressive vocals and fast guitar riffs leaving behind a big sweaty pile of exausted onlookers on the floor.
