NEWS 101 is Vancouver’s only live, volunteer-produced, student and community newscast. We cover current affairs ranging from the local to the international. We regularly have interviews with professors, politicians, student groups and clubs, local and national advocacy groups, and many others. We also share with you some of the best that independent journalism has to offer, including syndicated media coverage from Free Speech Radio News, Democracy Now!, The Young Turks, and more. Tune in at 5pm every Friday to hear an independent perspective of all that has changed in your world and how that affects you.

Our Guidelines

NEWS 101 is always looking for appropriate news content. If you are sending us a press release or an interview opportunity, please consider a few guidelines:

  1. We cover UBC campus, local, provincial, national, and international current affairs.
  2. We do not promote events, but will interview spokespeople who promote events relevant to our audience.
  3. We do not cover violent crimes, nor business releases promoting new products.

Motivated? Keen interest in the world around you? NEWS 101 welcomes volunteers to assist in the production and airing of NEWS 101 and other spoken broadcasts in upcoming seasons. You need not be a UBC student –– all necessary training is provided! If you would like to get involved with News 101, drop by for our weekly meetings at 4pm every Monday. Be sure to check out our brand new volunteer guide, which gives you a breakdown on how to conduct an interview and edit pre-recorded content.
