LSD49 – Elephants + Interfusions

This hour of radio programming in the name of so-called Art comes from various cassette tapes that recently erupted out of various boxes and containers — stashed away decades ago and then forgotten about.

The free form avant garde audio visual performance combo known as LSD49 were active in some form or other from the late 1980s through to at least 1996, though much as they (almost) never officially released any material into the marketplace, they also never officially disbanded. We’re pretty sure almost all of this stuff was recorded between 1989 and 1995. Sometimes it happened on purpose in a live event or radio performance, but more often than not, it came from free form exploring in somebody’s living room or bedroom or basement suburban rec-room — a place with no boundaries which never existed on any map.

Something of a set list:

“Detuning the Forest”
“Confusion to the Enemy”
“Shipwrecked in Heaven”
“A New Way of Thinking”
“Mammy and Merlin”
“A Little Bit of God”
“The Elephant Jam” (edit + expand)
“License to Drift”
“}Interfusion(s)”
“Rover”

The Conduction Series celebrates Art’s Birthday 2023 with friends from Kunstradio ORF (Austria), CiTR 101.9FM (Vancouver, Canada), and Radio CASo (Argentina).

Celebrating Art’s Birthday is a tradition started by French Fluxus artist Robert Filliou who declared, on January 17th 1963, that Art had been born exactly 1,000,000 years ago when somebody dropped a dry sponge into a bucket of water. Throughout the last decades artists continued organising annual celebrations in the spirit of Filliou’s “Eternal Network” or “La Fête Permanente”.

The Conduction Series is a collaborative live radio broadcast produced by a group of sound and transmission artists across the Americas on Wave Farm’s WGXC 90.7-FM Radio for Open Ears in New York’s Upper Hudson Valley. The group comes together on the first Friday of every month at 4:10pm ET using the web platform Mezcal. Emphasizing LIVE interactivity and media archaeological methods, the series explores themes of migration, feedback, user participation, low-key and on-site interaction with
mobile devices, and remote collaboration.

Come join us at 9PM on CiTR 101.9FM.

Anna Friz / Absolute Value of Noise – Morse Mountain

“The mountain sleeps; dreams stone. Festooned with power lines and communications towers, striated by long-ago meltwater and creeks that have since evaporated, blown bald by the prevailing winds. Some day, come earthrise or landfall, the mountain will walk out into the sea. Until then, micro-movements in the sediment and rock are its uneasy speech, while the antennae atop its massive breathing shoulders continue to call and respond.”

Anna Friz / Absolute Value of Noise‘s ‘Morse Mountain‘ overnight generative piece is inspired by coastal mountains that have been implicated in human long distance communications and listening, whether occupied by overland telephone and telegraph cables, military monitoring stations, radio and acoustic beacons for ships and airplanes, or 5G cell towers.

Morse Mountain‘ considers the ephemeral human occupations of signal space as they overlay mineral durations; fireflies buzzing around ancient beings that have merely paused to rest.
