Unceded Airwaves Episode February 27, 2017

S2E19 - Black History Month, Eden Robinson, & Mob Bounce

11:02am - 12:52pm

In season 2 episode 19, we have extra time to cover important topics, starting with an interview by Carleigh with Wade Compton discussing Black History Month. This week, Josh lines up an interview segment with Haisla/Heiltsuk author Eden Robinson and Mario speaks to the guys from Mob Bounce who give us an exclusive track to play on this show! We also start a new segment: Discussions That Go Nowhere.

We mix up our playlist this week to honour Black and Indigenous artists, starting off with a new show intro by A Tribe Called Red feat. Yasiin Bey, Narcy, and Black Bear. We hear from Barbara Lewis off the Moonlight soundtrack (thanks Josh for that pick) and Valerie June (who is one of Lisa's favs). We hear Frank Waln (Sicangu Lakota) and Jason Camp and the Posers (Haida) to round out the show.

Thank you to our co-hosts and interviewers Josh Kioke, Nikita Day, Carleigh Baker, and Lisa Girbav for coming in (and props to Nikita for jumping in as our board operator this week). Shout outs to our on the land correspondent Mario Parent who called us from out in the Unceded City. Unceded Airwaves on CiTR 101.9FM broadcasts from the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam people. This show is put together every week by UBC's Indigenous Radio Collective, and we are committed to centering the voices of Native people and offering alternative narratives that empower Native people and our stories.
