Frank Foster is one of the great underrated exponents of the tenor saxophone and is also a wonderful writer and arranger.He entered the New York scene in the early 50's and played with and recorded with such legends as pianists Elmo Hope and Thelonious Monk but opted for the security of the Count Basie Band for over 10 years. After leaving Basie he led is own ensembles such as the one heard on tonight's feature called "Manhattan Fever"...Marvin Stamm on trumpet, Garnett Brown on trombone, Richard Wyands on piano, Bob Cranshaw on accoustic bass and Mickey Roker on drums and featuring five compositions and six arrangements and the mighty tenor saxophone of Frank Foster.
