Tuesday’s Live@Lunch – CiTR presents Tyranahorse

CiTR and AMS Events presents Tyranahorse September 13, outside UBC’s student union building!

The East Vancouver band Tyranahorse will be special guest at Tuesday`s Live@Lunch, a free September lunchtime music series. The gig will be hosted by Oswaldo on The Morning After Show, live broadcast between 12-1:00 pm.

Tyranahorse describes itself as a noise, grunge, classical, pop, old country, hip hop, rock, and early hardcore band. Its last album, Ghostwolfmotherhawk-prairieunicornlionlioness, is inspired by noise, grunge, kazoo, pop, classical country. hardcore, The Pixies and the B-52′s.

Lead by the singer PrOphecy Sun (read what Discorder said about her), Tyranahorse is also Darren Fleet (vocals and guitar), Brent Glasgow Brown (drums and percussion), Max Stockholder (keys and shredding) and Jaro Welz (bass and claps).

Volunteer Orientation this Monday September 12

CITR will be hosting our monthly Volunteer Orientation this Monday evening, from 6:30PM until 7:30PM. Come on down and learn about the various volunteer opportunities at the station, ranging from News, Arts and Music to Promotions and Events.

Volunteering with CITR is a great way to utilize a wide range of backgrounds, and can be comprised of part-time or full-time hours. Meet some of our staff on Monday night, and learn about the different departments that make the station. The meeting will be held in the lounge here at CITR (SUB building, room 223).

The Arkells, Yukon Blonde and Chains of Love live at The SUB Ballroom

This Saturday September 10, AMS Events is hosting an awesome gig featuring alternative rock band The Arkells with special guests Yukon Blonde and Chains of Love.

Formed in Hamilton Ontario in 2006, The Arkells have toured Canada extensively showing off their masterful merge of traditional blues, modern rock and Motown rhythms.Their more recent performances include a stint opening for Black Crowes, MTV Live and V-Fest.

Special Guests

Yukon Blonde is an indie-rock band from British Columbia. Originally called by Alphababy(when first created in 2005), the four-piece group has released four albums and was called the best band of the 2010 Canadian Music Week Festival

Chains of Love was formed in Vancouver by a group of six musicians, who intend to rescue garage and soul with their amazing tunes.

Doors are at 10pm

Tickets are $20 and can be found at the Sub or entry is free with any firstweek wristband

Deriving from Cameryn Moore‘s personal experiences as a phone sex operator, ‘Phone Whore’ elaborates on the undercover world of phone sex services. As a one-women show she relays particular four calls that provides insight on what drives people towards sex and explodes certain taboos surrounding gender explorations of their sexuality.

Vancouver Fringe: Lost in Place
Seth Soulstein presents ‘Lost in Place‘, an interactive outdoor performance at Granville Island featuring a beached whale, a curious and lost alien/spaceman and of course the gigantic yellow crane. A surreal fantasy show melded together by the co-author of last year’s famous Wicked Shorts, ‘Lost in Place’ is an out-of-the-box take on the typical love/loss and never giving up hope theme of regular shows.

CiTR is having an Open House…lucky!

Ever wonder where a student of UBC or a member of the community might go to be trained up into a real life, on-air DJ? Ever stay up late at night asking yourself just how we store all the CDs and records that we have at our disposal? Do the words ‘digitizing the library’, ‘DJ training program’, and ‘live broadcast’ cause you to wonder? Or wake up early with the burning question: how does CiTR manage to be the best radio station in Vancouver?

Well, you’re in luck because CiTR 101.9 FM is having an OPEN HOUSE next Friday, September 9th between 12 and 5 pm… AND YOU’RE INVITED.
