Snake.” They’re a new wave, post-punk, synth pop band that could explode a dozen other musical adjectives. Performing with them will local new wave superstars Petroleum By Product and and the punk group Peace. Come out and get December started off right, before the wild consumerism leaves you jaded and cynical once again.

Stick around around for the dance party afterwards. Spinning that night will be Winniecooper DJs Tristan Orchard, Christian Flores and Wobangs.

Music on the Mind is a series of small classical concerts put on by the UBC School of Music. The goal is to give their students a unique chance to perform and to make classical music a part of the UBC soundscape.

Next Friday they are putting on the fifth concert in the series at The Point Grill. This performance will be a presentation of “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” or “A Little Night Music” which was composed by some guy named Mozart, I hear he’s popular with the kids.

Tyranahorse

The first SHiNDiG semi-final battle will be on November 15, at its usual venue: The Railway Club. The first three winners – Real Boys, The Killed Spirits and Tyranahorse – will take over the stage to contest a space in the final.

SHiNDiG 2011 started on September 13 and the winner will be decided on December 6. The three top finalists will earn prizes, as well the audience – telling jokes for Granville Island beer, $10 gift certificates at Zulu Records, Mint CD samplers and CiTR T-shirts.

Bands:
Winner of the first week, Real Boys, is a Greater Vancouver indie band formed by Everett Morris, Drew Riekman, Stephen O’Shea and Liam Hamilton, all members of other bands: You Say Party!, Oh No! Yoko, GSTS!.
The Killed Spirits is a punk/hardcore/indie band formed in 2008 by Matty Chenier, Dave Hallman and Sean Kilby, guys who released their 12 tracks digital album on May, named Death and Langley.

Fronted by the singer PrOphecy Sun, Tyranahorse members include Darren Fleet, Brent Glasgow Brown, Max Stockholder and Jaro Welz. Tyranahorse is strongly influenced by 80′s rock bands and the performance art of PrOphecy Sun.

Synthcake

As it is usual, the next SHiNDiG battle is going to take place at Railway Club, on Tuesday, 9 pm. This week’s competition will put together three more local bands: Conspiracy Farm, The Population Drops and Synthcake.

From Port Moody, Conspiracy Farm is an independent two year-old garage band strongly influenced by psychedelic rock. Synthcake also makes a psychedelic sound, featuring experimental and pop beats.
