Tyranahorse

The first SHiNDiG semi-final battle will be on November 15, at its usual venue: The Railway Club. The first three winners – Real Boys, The Killed Spirits and Tyranahorse – will take over the stage to contest a space in the final.

Bands:
Winner of the first week, Real Boys, is a Greater Vancouver indie band formed by Everett Morris, Drew Riekman, Stephen O’Shea and Liam Hamilton, all members of other bands: You Say Party!, Oh No! Yoko, GSTS!.
The Killed Spirits is a punk/hardcore/indie band formed in 2008 by Matty Chenier, Dave Hallman and Sean Kilby, guys who released their 12 tracks digital album on May, named Death and Langley.

Fronted by the singer PrOphecy Sun, Tyranahorse members include Darren Fleet, Brent Glasgow Brown, Max Stockholder and Jaro Welz. Tyranahorse is strongly influenced by 80′s rock bands and the performance art of PrOphecy Sun.

Bands

Sleuth hail from the wilds of Vancouver’s surrounding towns and cities. Actually they take art, pop music, cherry coke, comics, jokes, films and mid-century literature very seriously.

Winner of the fifth week, Fist Full O’ Snacks is a folk band.

Philoceraptor known as a Vancouver indie band, make pop punk reminiscent of their favorite 90′s bands.

Synthcake

As it is usual, the next SHiNDiG battle is going to take place at Railway Club, on Tuesday, 9 pm. This week’s competition will put together three more local bands: Conspiracy Farm, The Population Drops and Synthcake.

From Port Moody, Conspiracy Farm is an independent two year-old garage band strongly influenced by psychedelic rock. Synthcake also makes a psychedelic sound, featuring experimental and pop beats.

As usual, the next SHiNDiG battle is going to take place at Railway Club, on Tuesday at 9 pm. This week’s competition will feature three more local bands: beekeeper, The Harshies and Man Hands.

SHiNDiG 2011 started on September 13 and the winner will be decided on December 6. The four top rated bands will earn prizes, as well the audience – telling jokes for Granville Island beer, $10 gift certificates at Zulu Records, Mint CD samplers and CiTR T-shirts.

The Harshies is featured by its experimental alternative sound. Meanwhile, beekeeper is a three-piece band that mixes math-rock and experimental elements of Canadian Southern.

Fanthoms

As usual, the next SHiNDiG battle is going to take place at Railway Club, on Tuesday at 9 pm. This week’s competition will feature three more local bands: Fathoms, From Birth to Yew and Rec Centre.

Fathoms is a pair of friends, inspired by Depeche Mode and New Order, who make a dark electronic pop sound. From Birth to Yew is an alternative indie Vancouver band, and Rec Centre mixes pop, rock and shoegaze.

The Godspot

As usual, the next SHiNDiG battle is going to take place at Railway Club, on Tuesday at 9 pm. This week’s competition will feature three more local bands: The Godspot, Honourary MD and Philoceraptor.

SHiNDiG 2011 started on September 13 and the winner will be decided on December 6. The three top rated bands will earn prizes, as well the audience – telling jokes for Granville Island beer, $10 gift certificates at Zulu Records, Mint CD samplers and CiTR T-shirts.

Both Honourary MD and Philoceraptor bands are well known Vancouver indie bands. In contrast, The Godspot produces a sound blend of  blues, psychedelic and shoegaze.

The Radii

Fist Full O’ Snacks, The Radii and Tassels will play this Tuesday. The Radii define themselves as a mix of Pop, Rock, R&B, Glam and Soul, who just launched their debut album. Tassels is a one-man-band, Sean Orr, who makes drone-heavy electronic music.

SHiNDiG is CiTR’s annual battle of the bands competition. All styles are welcome — whether you are a solo country artist or a 10-piece punk band. Past participants includes the likes of The Organ, 3 Inches of Blood, You Say Party! We Say Die!, Japandroids and They Shoot Horses Don’t They?.

You’ll need to send us a minimum 3 song demo of original material (CD/MP3/MySpace/Bandcamp/Whatever. Rough mixes absolutely OK. We’ll get the idea.) and your contact information (email + phone number). Bios, photos or other information are not required but we will look at them if you send them in.
