Homelessness Marathon 2016

Author

For the last 14 years, the National Campus/Community Radio Association has chosen a day in February to centre the voices of people experiencing poverty and homelessness with the Homelessness Marathon.

Hosted for 11 years by McGill University’s CKUT-FM in Montreal, the marathon has been coordinated by U of Alberta’s CJSR in Edmonton and Queens University in Kingston’s CFRC over the past two years, making this the first time the marathon has been coordinated by a station in British Columbia. This year, CIVL has taken on the task!

On February 23rd starting at 2pm (PST) and running until 4am (PST) on February 24th, the Homelessness Marathon will go nation-wide on more than 22 stations with original live broadcasts from CiTR 101.9FM, as well as CJSF Burnaby from SFU, CFRU at the U of Guelph, CHRW from Westernin London, ON, and CKDU at Dalhousie in Halifax.

CiTR will be broadcasting live in the Downtown Eastside from 9:00pm – 10:30pm (PST), and again with pre-recorded content from 1:30am – 3:00am (PST). Stay tuned for announcements on location, community partners, and potential guests!
